How often should l Test and Tag

The regulations state that test periods vary from 3 months to 5 years depending of the type of workplace.
Also the harshness of the inviroment and clasification of the workplace.

Full details of the regulations are available from the Queensland Electrical Safety Office, Brisbane.

 Phone 1300 650 662 or at

http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/fair-and-safe-work/electrical-safety/electrical-workers-and-contractors/inspecting-and-testing-equipment/electrical-equipment-and-tools-testing-and-tagging#intervals

3 reasons why l should Test and Tag electrical equipment within the workplace?

1.   Severe penalties can apply for non-compliance and failure to comply may incur hevy fines, held liable
from death or injury and  affect your insurance cover.

2.  The Queensland Electrical Safety Act 2002, directs that ALL workplaces in Queensland MUST, Test and Tag
all plug in electrical equipment and   RCD'S  at different intervals depending upon the Classifacation
of the workplace.
      ITS THE LAW!

3.
To protect your employers, employees and assets from injury, death, destruction and fire.

One of the employer’s obligations under the legislation is to identify, assess, control and/or eliminate health or safety risks, especially those risks associated with electricity.

Will l lose power while testing.

Yes, but only to that appliance being tested.
We wiil have to unplug and turn off every appliance before we can test it.
But it is only for a short period of time.

In order to test your R.C.D Safety Switches, we will need to do trip readings.

In this case you will lose power a couple of times on all power points protected by those R.C.D'S.
Once again only for a short period of time.

How does Absolute Test and Tag test my equipment.

Our fully trained technicians use only the latest testing equipment that is approved (and tested every 6 months as required by law) for the purpose of in-service testing of electrical equipment.

  • Visual Inspection of the device / leads,Cords should be firmly anchored in plugs, connections made solidly with no frayed ends.
  • The appliance will be tested with various test equipment to test for any unseen electrical faults.
  • These tests include; an insulation resistance test; earth continuity, earth routine or earth bond test; a polarity test; and an earth leakage test.
  • Record Keeping: , various codes of practices refer to this.
  • Full asset register of all passed and failed items
  • A safety tag must be placed on the appliance verifying its safe approval.

This tag must clearly display:

  • - The name of the tester or test companies

  • - The date tested or retest date

  • - licence number of contractor

Do l need records?

Queensland legislation requires that documentation of test results and an inventory of electrical equipment in the workplace be kept and evidence of an ongoing maintenance programme is available for inspection if required on the business premises.

It also gives you an full asset list of all your stock for loss or theft purposes.
